New Multifunction, Multiplatform, Multifaceted Scaleable Server Handles The Open Road

Azusa, CA (January 12, 2004)

GMII 102 portable computerToday Acme Portable Machines, Inc., a leading provider of rugged portable computers, introduced a new line of portable server computers, the GMII-102. The all-in-one lunchbox style portable computer is a powerful workstation that packs 2.0 GHz or 3.0 GHz Pentium® 4 processors, eight expansion slots, and high capacity hard disk drive (HDD) in a compact package measuring just 16” (w) x 10.75” (l) x 8.25” (d). It is loaded with enough storage capacity to fulfill the most demanding needs of backup storage, multiple segmented networks, enormous file transfers, field audits, high-end image, graphics and video processing, which includes data intensive video editing and 3D visualization. The GMII-102 fits users and OEM, ODM, and integrators involved in test and measurement, military and aerospace, field data acquisition, ISPs, law enforcement and forensic, automotive, telecommunications and end users involved in multimedia platforms.

Accommodating both heavy industrial and office conditions, the GMII-102 provides an excellent option for those unusual and odd field conditions that want the flexibility and scalability of a compacted system, whether onboard a ship, bouncing in the back of an SUV or as simply a set up for tradeshows. Each system can handle the jarring and shocks of mobility translating into top of the line servers on the go. Each unit can be configured with a single high-capacity HDD, with a minimum 80 GB disk capacity, and two additional drive bays configurable as a floppy disk drive, CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-R or combo drives.

Further enhancing the unit’s performance, the GMII-102 can be loaded with up to 2 GBs of double data rate (DDR) or PC-133 memory making it ideal for data intensive software applications. The eight open slots and multiple I/Os make the GMII-102 a portable troubleshooting, testing, or industrial server. Each unit uses two USB ports and an Ethernet/Fast Ethernet port (optional additional Giga Ethernet port is available) to be used as a mobile server for multiple segmented network stations able to handle simultaneous LAN/WAN node requests. In combination with the large storage capacity, the unit can serve not only as a server, but can be used for emergency/non-emergency or mobile backup for sensitive data. For temporary emergency uses, each unit can be picked up just as easily as a laptop and placed in hotspots in a network to supplement peaks in high bandwidth/data usage or used in temporary functions for downed servers/workstations. The GMII-102 features a PCMCIA/Card Bus option supporting either type II or type III options and two additional serial ports and one enhanced parallel port.

The GMII-102 also provides an internal flat panel 14.1” XGA TFT display with 32MB or 64MB video RAM and integrated multi-media speakers and sound kit. An AT compatible 104/105 key keyboard with an integrated touch style mouse pad makes the unit a powerful, fully featured, multifunction portable server.
